Unit 4 Loving Kindness

I was in my bedroom, alone, lying in my bed as I listened to the Loving Kindness practice.   I closed my eyes so that I could listen and feel what the exercise had to offer. Listening to this exercise made me think about things a combination of things.  It made me think about myself and what surrounds me.  I thought about who I am as a person, what bothers me and how to let go of the things that aren’t healthy for my wellbeing.  I also thought about who I love and care about and why they are important in my life.  This exercise was one that I would recommend to those I know personally as well as those I that I encounter that I see may be in need of human flourishing. In my opinion it is up to the individual to allow these exercises into their inner soul in order to achieve the true outcome.
The concept of mental work out is working out the mind mentally by the development of an expanded consciousness and its healing capacities.  There is a few practices to the mental workout. Loving kindness which is loving thy self in order to love others and the three levels of the subtle mind which train the mind to develop a witnessing consciousness, calm abiding and unity consciousness. When we gain access to unity we gain access to a higher consciousness of wisdom, peace, compassion, happiness and wholeness which are all practices to the mental workout.  The mental workout has been proven to help us train the mind and open the heart to loving kindness and wisdom.  To implement a mental workout I would began by scheduling an allotted time of the day to open up my mind and focus on the understanding of loving myself first.  If I am unhappy with myself I can’t or won’t be happy towards others.
